Program cost of the study is $3,500 and includes airfare, lodging, visa, in country travel and excursions. Passport, international student I.D., texts, food and incidentals are not included. In addition to program fee, students will pay regular academic fees to Cal Poly. The total estimated fees are between $5,500 and 6,500, which includes program fees, health coverage, tuition, texts, food, passport and incidentals.

The cost is broken down into three main categories:

1. Tuition.
All students must enroll in a minimum of 12 Cal Poly units. It is not recommended that students take more than 17 units on the program. Cal Poly tuition varies by college/academic unit.

2. Program Fee.
The program fees total $3,850. The program fee includes round trip airfare to Thailand, lodging and facilities, group transportation in Thailand, health insurance and administration fees.

3. Personal Expenses.
The following expenses may be incurred and exact dollar amounts may vary.

* Personal expenses (non-program-related travel, spending money, laundry, entertainment, scuba, etc.). This cost will vary according to an individual's spending habits.

Financial Aid
Eligible students, both those now receiving financial aid and those not receiving financial aid, may qualify for aid. In some cases, financial aid will be increased to meet the extra expenses incurred with an overseas quarter. It is highly recommended that you consult a financial aid officer to discuss your individual situation.

Payment Schedule
Deposit of $500 (to cashiers office--Bld.1) and registration material plus receipt of deposit (to Thai Study office--Bld.38 Rm. 145) due no later than December 7, 2007 with application materials. Final payments of the remaining balance (to cashiers office--Bldg. 1) due no later than February 8, 2008.

Methods of Payment

There are three ways that students can pay the deposit and program fees.

  1. Make a check out to Cal Poly, bring it to the cashiers and bring the receipt to the program office (Bldg. 38 Room 145).  Let the cashier know that the money is for the Thailand Study Program. Bring the reciept to Thai Study office Bldg. 38 Room 145.
  2. By eCheck*, go to http://www.afd.calpoly.edu/Student_Accounts/onlinepayments.htm.  Select General Payment for your payment. Then email the Tammy Logan in Student Accounts, at talogan@calpoly.edu, with a copy sent to the program director at rleroy@calpoly.edu, and let her know that your payment was for the Thai Study Program. There is no transaction fee for eChecks!
  3. By credit card* (Sorry, no VISA).  Per your request,a charge can be put on your students account and then you can pay by credit card.   You will be charged a convenience fee of 2.9%.  Please email the program director if you would like a charge placed on your student account.

Refund Policies
Cal Poly and Thai Study have different refund policies, and a few of the expenses are non-refundable. Please pay attention to the following refund schedules:

Cal Poly Tuition:
Consult Cal Poly Student Accounts Office for tuition refund policy.

Thai Study :
A withdrawal from the program prior to January 18, 2008 will be refunded all payment less $100 ($75 processing and $25 non refundable application fee). A withdrawal from the program on or after January 18, 2008 will result in a forfeit of the entire program deposit ($500) plus any costs incurred by the program up to that point.

Scholarships
Students have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to offset the costs of participating in the Thai Study program. Deadlines for these scholarships are from early to late October for the Spring quarter program.

The primary goal of the Freeman-ASIA Program is to increase the number of American undergraduates who study in East and Southeast Asia, by providing students with the information and financial assistance they will need.


The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for study abroad, for US citizen students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university.

  Cal Poly Academic Scholarships will apply to the quarter you are in Thailand. College of Agriculture students can apply to the International Agriculture Development Scholarships.
